What Is Glycemic Index?

With our busy schedules, exercise is always a huge challenge but we do realize that getting some form of exercise is great for our body, and helps us stay fit and healthy. Fortunately, exercising by going to the gym is not the only way out. Most of us have jobs that keep us on our feet and if we incorporate some more moderate exercise throughout the week, it is possible to keep fit by eating right.

The only issue with eating the right kind of foods is that most people follow different programs. They keep jumping from program to program and the actual “health” is lost somewhere. Once you start a program, it is important to stick to one program and see if it works for you. Changing programs drastically doesn’t help at all.

Another mistake people tend to do is stay away from some food that may be important for their body. Numerous surveys reveal that there are hundreds to thousands of people who have ruined their metabolism due to yo-yo dieting; through low-protein, low-fat or low carb eating.

If you really wish to maintain your health and keep your body and mind healthy, there is nothing that can beat the benefits of eating a low “Glycemic diet.” This is a very simple plan to follow. Although, the word sounds exotic, the glycemic index is nothing but a list of foods arranged in such a way that they show how quickly the sugar that the foods contain is released into our system.

Foods that are higher on the list are the ones that release sugar faster. This means the top of the pyramid is not good for us. When sugar is released fast, it can cause the pancreas to overload us with insulin, the end result of which is fat storage in our body. You can get a glycemic index and stick it somewhere so that you eat only the low glycemic foods.

Our metabolism can very soon be running at the perfect speed, if we concentrate on having a healthy diet that includes five or six small meals in a day; instead of overloading with food a couple of times. You must include, protein, legumes and plenty of low glycemic vegetables at every meal, and raw vegetables are preferred.

If you continue to follow this diet plan for a couple of weeks, you will see a huge difference in how you feel, in the fitting of your clothes and it will also show on the scale. This is an extremely easy way of getting fitting without having to exercise too much.
